Tomato rice is famous dish of south india. It is also known as Thakkali sadam in Tamilnadu & Tomato bath in karnataka.
Tomato rice is pretty simple and quick receipe.
I used veggies like tomato , onion, capsicum, carrot you can take any vegetables. Here I used tomato puree for tastes.

Ingredients and spices that need to be Take to make Tomato rice:
- For boiling rice :
- 1 cup basmati rice
- 1 tsp ghee
- 2 cloves
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 tsp salt
- For preparing masala :
- 2 tbsp grated coconut
- 2 dried chilli(I didn't use, but you can take)
- 1 tsp fennel seeds
- 1 tsp coriander seeds
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 inch ginger
- 4 clove garlic
- 1/4 cup water or as required
- For preparing tomato rice:
- 2 tbsp ghee
- 1 tsp oil
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 pod cardamom
- 1 inch cinnamon
- 2 cloves
- 2 pinches asafoetida
- 1 chopped capsicum
- 1 chopped carrot
- 1 chopped onion
- 1 chopped tomato
- 2 tomatoes for puree
- 3 tbsp prepared masala
- 1 bowl boiled rice
- 1 tsp turmeric
- 1 tbsp salt
- 1 tbsp biryani masala
- Chopped green coriander
- 3-4 cashews
- 3-4 kishmish
Steps to make to make Tomato rice
- For preparing boiled basmati rice : take a vessel and add basmati rice wash 3 times and soak it.
- After that add ghee, bay leaf, cloves & salt and half boil it. And drain water from rice. Keep aside for half hour.
- For preparing masala : take a mixture blender and add grated coconut, fennel seeds, cumin seeds, coriander seeds, garlic clove and ginger (if you want then add dry red chilli) mix water and blend to smooth paste.
- For preparing tomato rice : heat ghee -oil on pan and add asafoetida, bay leaf, cloves, cardamom, cinnamon and saute it till it turns aromatic.
- Further add chopped capsicum and carrot stir well. After that add onion & saute until it shrinks.also add chopped tomato and saute ot until it turns mushy and soft. Now add tomato puree and stir well for 2 minutes.
- Next, add prepared masala paste & cook it for 2 minutes.
- Furthermore, add boiled basmati rice and add turmeric, biryani masala, salt and combine well.
- After that garnish it with cashews, kishmish and chopped coriander.
- Serve it with curd, raita. Enjoy.
